What is Stake?

Stake is a crypto-first online casino and sportsbook launched in 2017 by Australian entrepreneurs Ed Craven and Bijan Tehrani. It built its reputation on two things most competitors don't lead with: cryptocurrency as the primary (often only) way to fund an account, and "provably fair" verification on its in-house games, which lets you cryptographically check that a round wasn't tampered with after you placed your bet. It operates under Curaçao gaming licences — the exact licensing entity has been restructured more than once as the platform has grown, so treat any specific licence number you see quoted online, including elsewhere, as something to re-verify in Stake's own footer rather than take on faith.

Stake has also become one of the most heavily sponsored brands in gambling — UFC, Premier League clubs and Formula 1 teams have all carried Stake branding at various points, and its founders are known for publicised high-stakes streamed sessions. None of that changes the odds on any given bet; it's marketing, not a signal of better value.

Why install the web app

Stake doesn't ship a traditional installable binary on either mobile platform, so "the app" here means a mobile web app you add to your home screen. It's still worth doing rather than just bookmarking the site:

  • Full-screen, app-like feel. Once added, it opens without a browser address bar and behaves like any other icon on your home screen.
  • Faster repeat visits. Cached assets mean the interface shell loads quicker than typing the URL fresh each time.
  • One tap to your balance. Useful for checking a live sports bet or a Crash round without digging through browser tabs.

It doesn't unlock anything the desktop browser can't do — Stake's entire feature set is the same regardless of how you access it.

Installing on Android

  1. Open Stake's official website in Chrome — avoid links from social media comments or forum posts and type the address directly or use a link you trust.
  2. Tap the three-dot menu in the top right and choose Add to Home screen (some Chrome versions show an "Install app" prompt automatically instead).
  3. Confirm the name and tap Add.
  4. Open the new icon from your home screen and log in or register.

There's no separate APK to sideload and nothing to "update" in the traditional sense — the web app always loads the current version of the site.

Installing on iOS

  1. Open the Stake website in Safari — this flow is Safari-specific on iOS.
  2. Tap the Share icon (square with an arrow pointing up).
  3. Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen.
  4. Confirm the name and tap Add.

The result opens full-screen without Safari's address bar and keeps your session between visits, the same as on Android.

Stake on desktop

There's no separate Windows or Mac client to download — the desktop experience is the full browser site, with the same games, sportsbook and wallet as mobile. Most high-volume Stake users we've seen actually prefer the desktop layout for the sportsbook's bet slip and for multi-tabling casino games, so don't assume the mobile app is automatically the "better" way to use Stake.

Screenshots: a quick walkthrough

We're intentionally not lifting screenshots from Stake's own marketing pages — a screen captured mid-session tells you more than a polished press shot. Here's roughly what each main screen looks like; we'll swap in our own captures as we refresh this review.

Registering & verification

  1. Open Stake and tap Register.
  2. Sign up with an email address (or a linked social/Google account, where offered) and set a password.
  3. Confirm you meet the minimum age for your jurisdiction and accept the terms.
  4. Verify your email, then connect or generate a wallet for the coin you plan to deposit with.

Stake typically doesn't demand ID verification just to sign up or make a first small deposit — full KYC (government ID, sometimes a selfie) is usually triggered before your first withdrawal or once your activity passes certain thresholds, in line with standard anti-money-laundering practice.

Bonuses & promotions

This is where Stake genuinely differs from most competitors, including others reviewed on this site: there typically isn't a big percentage-match welcome bonus with a steep wagering requirement attached. Instead, the value is spread across a few ongoing mechanics:

  • Rakeback / VIP program. A portion of the house edge you generate is returned over time as you climb VIP tiers — the details and pace of this vary and are worth reading in-app rather than assuming a fixed rate.
  • Weekly and monthly races. Leaderboard-style competitions on wagered volume, with a prize pool split among top finishers.
  • Occasional reload bonuses or free-play drops, usually announced through Stake's own channels rather than running continuously.

Whether that's better or worse than a "500% welcome bonus" headline depends on how you play: if you never planned to clear a 30–40x wagering requirement anyway, Stake's model avoids the trap. If you were hoping for free bonus cash on day one, you won't find it here.

Sportsbook

Stake Sportsbook covers a wide range of traditional sports (football, basketball, tennis, cricket, MMA) alongside a genuinely deep esports book — CS2, Dota 2, League of Legends and Valorant get treated as first-class markets rather than an afterthought, which reflects Stake's audience. Pre-match and live in-play betting are both supported, with cash-out available on eligible bets and a bet-slip experience that power users generally rate as one of the cleaner ones in the industry.

Casino & Stake Originals

"Stake Originals" are the platform's own in-house games — simple, fast-round formats built around the provably fair system rather than licensed from a third-party studio:

GameFormatTypical RTPVolatility
DiceRoll under/over a target number~99%Adjustable by you
CrashCash out before the multiplier crashes~99%High
PlinkoDrop a ball through a peg board~99%Adjustable by risk setting
MinesReveal tiles, avoid the mines~99%Adjustable by mine count

RTP figures are published by Stake itself for its Originals and are a long-run average, not a promise for any single session. Provably fair works by combining a server seed (hashed and hidden until after the round), your own client seed, and a nonce that increments each bet — after the round, you can plug all three into a public verifier and confirm the output matches, which proves the result wasn't changed after you bet, though it says nothing about the built-in house edge itself. Beyond Originals, the casino lobby runs into the thousands of third-party slots and live-dealer tables from well-known studios, filterable by provider, volatility and RTP.

Crypto deposits & withdrawals

Stake's wallet is built around cryptocurrency first. Typical supported coins include Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Tether (USDT), Dogecoin, Ripple (XRP) and Tron (TRX), among others — the exact list changes, so check the deposit screen for what's currently live. There is no minimum deposit set by Stake itself in most cases, though network fees on the blockchain you're using effectively set a practical floor.

If you don't already hold crypto, the general path is: buy it on a reputable local exchange (many in India support UPI or bank transfer for this), then send it to the deposit address Stake's wallet screen generates for you. Double-check the network/chain matches on both ends before sending — an address on the wrong network can mean a lost deposit that no support ticket can recover.

MethodTypical speedNotes
Bitcoin (BTC)~10–60 min (network-dependent)Higher network fees at busy times
Ethereum (ETH)MinutesWatch for gas fees
Litecoin / Tron / othersMinutesGenerally cheaper network fees
USDT (stablecoin)MinutesAvoids crypto price volatility on your balance

Withdrawals follow the same logic in reverse and are usually fast once your account is verified — the main variable is network congestion rather than anything Stake controls directly.

Pros & cons

What we liked

  • Provably fair verification on Originals is a genuine, checkable transparency feature
  • No forced deposit-match bonus means no wagering-requirement trap if you don't want one
  • Deep esports and live sports coverage
  • Fast crypto withdrawals once verified
  • Huge third-party slot and live-casino library

What holds it back

  • Effectively crypto-only — a real barrier if you've never bought crypto before
  • Blocked in a long list of countries, including some large ones — availability is genuinely unpredictable
  • No native app store listing on Android or iOS
  • No phone support
  • Real-money gambling carries genuine financial risk, full stop

Safety, licensing & availability

Stake operates under Curaçao gaming licences, applies SSL encryption to account and transaction data, and enforces KYC/AML identity checks before withdrawal. As with any Curaçao-licensed operator, this is a lighter regulatory bar than jurisdictions like the UK or Malta — it's worth treating "licensed" as a baseline rather than a guarantee, and confirming the current licensing details directly in Stake's own footer before depositing anything meaningful.

Availability is the bigger practical issue for a lot of readers: Stake restricts a substantial list of countries — including, notably, Australia, where its founders are based — and the list changes over time. If you're geo-blocked, that's Stake telling you it isn't currently available to you; routing around it with a VPN generally breaches the platform's own terms and isn't something we'd recommend.

Responsible gambling

Betting and casino games are entertainment with genuine financial risk, not a reliable way to make money. Set a personal deposit limit before you start, never chase losses, and remember that "provably fair" proves a round wasn't tampered with — it does not mean the house edge disappears.

If gambling stops feeling like entertainment, India's National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) SPIRIT helpline (1800-891-4416) and Stake's own in-account deposit limits and self-exclusion tools are both worth using. This service is for players aged 18 and over only.

Our verdict

Stake is a genuinely well-built product for a specific type of player: someone already comfortable with crypto, who values transparency mechanics like provably fair over a flashy welcome bonus, and who wants deep sportsbook and Originals variety in one place. If you don't already hold crypto and were hoping for a straightforward UPI deposit and a big sign-up bonus, this isn't the platform built for you — and if your country is on Stake's restricted list, none of the above matters until that changes. As with any offshore real-money platform, the underlying financial risk is real regardless of how polished the app is.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Stake app free to download?

Yes. Installing the web app on Android or iOS costs nothing — you only spend money if and when you deposit crypto and place a bet.

Do I need cryptocurrency to use Stake?

Effectively yes in most regions. Stake is built around crypto wallets rather than cards or UPI, so you'll typically need to buy crypto on an exchange first, unless a fiat on-ramp partner happens to be available in your specific country.

Is Stake available in my country?

It depends, and it changes. Stake restricts a long list of countries, including Australia, the UK and the US (outside the separate Stake.us product). Check the current restricted-territories list on Stake's own site, or simply try registering — you'll be told immediately if your country is blocked.

Does Stake have a Google Play Store or Apple App Store app?

No. It works as a mobile-optimized website you install as a home-screen web app on both Android and iOS — there's no separate binary to sideload or update.

Does Stake have a welcome bonus?

Not the typical percentage-match kind. Stake leans on rakeback, a VIP program and periodic reload offers or races instead of a big sign-up bonus with heavy wagering requirements — check the Promotions tab in-app for what's currently running.

What is "provably fair" on Stake?

A verification system on Stake Originals where each round's outcome can be independently checked after the fact using a public server seed, your own client seed and a nonce — it proves the round wasn't altered after you bet, but it doesn't change the built-in house edge.

How long do withdrawals take?

Often minutes to a couple of hours once your account is verified, though network congestion and Stake's own checks on larger amounts can slow this down. First withdrawals typically require identity verification.

Is my account the same on the app and desktop?

Yes — one account, one balance and one bet history across the mobile web app, desktop browser and any other device you log into.

Should I use a VPN if Stake is blocked in my country?

We'd recommend against it. Routing around a geo-block usually breaches Stake's terms of service and can put your funds and account at risk if it's discovered, on top of whatever legal question exists in your own jurisdiction.

What if I can't verify my identity?

Verification is usually only enforced before a withdrawal or once your activity crosses certain thresholds, and typically needs a government ID and sometimes a selfie. If a document keeps getting rejected, live chat is the fastest way to find out why.
