Be financially literate and save your investments.

Chandigarh: A Seminar on “Be Financially Literate: Save your Investments” was conducted by the Consumer Association Chandigarh and Chandigarh Administration at the ICSSR Complex Panjab University Chandigarh. A large number of citizen were present on the occasion. Brig. J.S. Phoolka, Patron of the Association was Chief Guest. In his Inaugural Speech he said that Financially Literacy is the need of the hour. Every body wants that I get best out of the money he has by investing in the huge market and the various companies have employed the educated people and given huge targets. Those employees want to procure more business by hook or crook. After some time they left the companies and join another. But the investors do not know what has happened to his money. People should search for the good companies to invest money.

Shri Surender Verma, Chairman of Citizen Awareness Group in his key note address, talked about the precautions that should be taken by investors while dealing with the security market and advised that one should buy stocks only after thoroughly studying the performance of the company concerned. He warned prospective investors that in equity market it is important to know the capacity to take risks.

Sh. Nitin Kapoor, Associate Vice President, India Infoline. Spoke about the Stock Market. He insisted the gathering to study the market before buying or selling shares etc. It will surely help them for safe investment.

Prof. Upinder Sawney, Chairperson, Department of Economics, Panjab University, Chandigarh spoke about consumer and services providers should be face to face, now the distance has been inclined. Greed of few are ruining the life’s of many.

Shri G.S. Chawla, Director Master Trust Ltd. Chandigarh who chaired the Technical Session of the Seminar advised the investors to go for investment in financial institutions instead of investing in immovable properties as one cannot keep track on his properties but he and his family can get information about his investment in the institutions. This may help in bringing down the land cost. One should take as much time as they take in purchasing a dress.

Shri Mudit Kapoor, Regional Manager, Birla Sunlife Insurance, advised the investors to go for investments in Insurance sector at it is giving more profit that investing in Fixed Deposited moreover it is safer than other investment and can give full value of their money.

Shri H.S. Walia, Ex member, Consumer Dispute Redressal Forum, Chandigarh highlighted the various investment related cases comes in the court. He also apprised the audience that the terms and conditions written in bold letters is only taken in account instead of written in very small letters by the courts.

The function was organized on the occasion of National Consumer Day 2009 on the topic given by Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India.
